Privacy Policy

This is a draft policy describing what Reader Central actually collects and does today. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer - treat it as a starting point, not a compliance guarantee, before sending this app to real users.
Children's privacy
Reader Central is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. We ask for date of birth at signup to enforce this - it's used only for that eligibility check, stored on your account, and never shown to other users. If we determine an account belongs to someone under 13, we delete the account and the data collected with it. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us using the details below and we'll remove it.
What we collect
- Account info: your email address, password (handled by Supabase Auth; we never see your raw password), and date of birth (used only to confirm you're 13 or older).
- Reading data you add: books, shelves, ratings, reviews, reading goals, and tier lists.
- Social data: who you follow, club memberships, and posts/comments you write.
- If you import a Goodreads export, the contents of that CSV file.
- Basic technical data (IP address, error reports) if error tracking is enabled, used only to diagnose bugs.
How we use it
To run the app: showing your library, ratings, and social feed to you and the people you connect with, and to keep the service working and abuse-free (for example, rate-limiting and flagging spam). We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.
What's public vs. private
Your username, display name, and anything you mark public (reviews, public shelves, a public tier list) can be seen by other readers and by search engines. Shelves and ratings you mark private stay private. Your email is never shown to other users.
Third parties
We use Supabase (database and auth), Vercel (hosting), and Open Library / the Metropolitan Museum of Art (public book metadata and cover art). If error tracking is enabled, crash reports are sent to Sentry.
Your data, your choices
You can edit or delete most of your data (shelves, reviews, ratings) directly in the app. To request full account deletion, contact us using the details below.
